What Babylon Means to Us
The name Babylon carries both a powerful legacy and a timeless lesson. The ancient city of Babylon – founded nearly 4,000 years ago – was one of the earliest hubs of human civilization. It was a center for law, science, trade, and architecture. But perhaps most relevant to modern business, Babylon is where the earliest systems of credit and lending were born.
Clay tablets from the Babylonian empire contain records of interest-bearing loans, sureties, and structured repayments—the foundations of today’s financial contracts. In many ways, Babylon gave us the blueprint for structured capital and institutional finance. We chose the name Babylon not just for its historical depth, but for its symbolism.
The Tower of Babel – a bold attempt to build something reaching the heavens – reminds us that even the most ambitious efforts can fall apart when communication breaks down.
